What is a Life Coach and Do You Need One?

Social Squares

Athletes have coaches.  Students have teachers and tutors.  Professionals have mentors.  And some people have life coaches.

What is a life coach?   A life coach is what it sounds like, a coach for your life.  Since life did not come with an instruction manual to guide us through every age, stage, and possible scenario and situation, sometimes, we need a life coach to help us figure out what steps to take to make changes, to set and reach goals, and to navigate life’s challenges.

Do you need a life coach?  While we may have family and friends who support us, sometimes, we may need to turn to a life coach who has the expertise to help us to transform areas of our lives.  When deciding whether or not life coaching is right for you, consider this:

  1. A life coach is a cheerleader and so much more.  When you know that you have someone in your corner, it’s easier to take risks, to let go of what no longer serves you well, and to pursue what you truly want. A life coach will accompany you on your journey, providing support, encouragement, practical strategies, and effective techniques along the way.
  2. A life coach provides guidance.  Sometimes, it can be difficult to know what decisions and choices to make, especially when we feel stressed or overwhelmed.  A friend or a family member cannot always be objective or unbiased, but a life coach can.  A life coach will be honest and tell you what you need to hear and guide you in the next best steps to take.
  3. A life coach can help to improve many facets of life.  Think about your own life and what areas may benefit from life coaching:
    Career
    Relationships
    Parenting
Physical and emotional health and well-being
    Finding your life’s purpose
    Setting and achieving goals
  4. A life coach is not a therapist. A life coach focuses on improving skills, performance, and mindset, while a therapist focuses on addressing mental health issues.  A life coach concentrates on the present and future, while a therapist delves deeper into the past.

Life coaching can be life changing, and when you are ready to begin the change process, I am ready to guide you along the way.
