I recently received the above card from Corey Lockhart. Corey is an amazingly talented, compassionate, and creative soul who touches others with her art and her words. Her Cards for Remembering have been part of my morning ritual for several years, and I hold Corey in high esteem. So, to receive this card from her meant a great deal to me.
After receiving this card, I did not tuck it in a drawer or recycle it, as I have done with other cards. Instead, I incorporated it into my morning ritual.
The world is a better place with you in it is a reminder that our very presence has the ability to make the world a better place. I remember how my entire world changed for the better when I found out that I was pregnant with my first daughter. I had not met her yet, but she still filled me with so much joy, unconditional love, hope, and gratitude. Her mere presence was enough. More than enough. It still is.
Think of the people in your life who you gravitate toward and look forward to seeing. While they may do a great deal of good in the world through acts of kindness, service, or generosity, some of which you may benefit from, my guess is that there is something intangible that draws you to them. You may describe them as having good energy or a magnetic personality. Perhaps, you think of them as being big-hearted or as an old soul. When you think of this person, you may find yourself smiling for no reason, except there is a reason. The world is a better place with that person in it.
Too often, we are conditioned to believe that our own self-worth or value is based on what we do, instead of who we are. We vie for more followers, likes, and visibility and mistakenly believe that makes us worthy or good enough, only to feel more isolated and disconnected than ever. We subscribe to the hustle culture to do more, earn more, spend more, have more, and be more, only to discover that we still may feel less than. Too often, our brains over think and over complicate things. The simple reality is that the world is a better place with you in it!
If you struggle to believe how you make the world a better place, get curious. Where did you learn that you do not make the world a better place? What would change this belief? What would make you feel like you make the world a better place? Would other people agree that you don’t make the world a better place? If not, why do they believe you make the world a better place?
Again, get curious, and you may be surprised at what you discover. If you still find it challenging to embrace this, let me know, as I have been there myself. The world needs you, the authentic you, and whether you believe it or not, the world really is a better place with you in it. I appreciate you being in it and for showing up every day, especially on the days when you don’t feel like it. Thank you!
